The issue of a black market for human bones, as well as other body parts, has raised concern in many countries including the United States. The reasons as to why many people are concerned about the illegal acquisition of bones are based on both medical and legal issues. Many articles have been written on the issue, which has provided insight into the need to address the issue. For instance, according to an article by Johnson (2016), the idea of the existence of a black market for bones has many implications, which are explained elaborately in the article. Based on the fact that the family of Mr. Crooke not being informed prior to his bones being harvested, the same is not an ideal idea. The article dismisses the idea by providing genuine reasons as to why the illegal selling of human bones should not occur.

According to the article, it is illegal to sell human body parts for profit as they should only be donated by the donor or the donor’s family. This is ideal because the bones become too expensive ($7,000 per body of harvested tissue) with the existence of a black market for bones, thus the significance of the article’s information (Johnson, 2016) . The article is also beneficial for providing information on the uses of donated bones and tissue. It mentions that the donated tissue and bones are used in over 600,000 surgical procedures annually (Johnson, 2016) . In the event that a black market in human bones existed, it would interfere with the occurrence of those surgical procedures, thus the article’s significance. The article is elaborate in the manner it mentions the consequences of engaging in the illegal selling of human bones and tissues.

According to the article, people face jail terms for the same as it is an illegal means of acquiring profit. Another consequence of a black market in human bones is that there is a possibility of transmission of conditions such as cancer that the donor suffered (Johnson, 2016) . However, the fact that the article has not confirmed the same makes it somewhat limited. The article is however beneficial for providing information on the need to run tests based on true information such as the cause of death and age of the donors of bones and human tissue.
