Having a code of conduct in a business is essential since it protects the business and informs the employees of what to expect in the organization (Mkcay, 2010). It is important for a company to have a written code of ethics because it clarifies its mission, vision, and principles. Every company is expected to have the management staff prepare a written code of conduct to ensure that other employees are aware of what is expected of them and in the organization. Additionally, the written code of ethics can be used by employees as a reference in their everyday decision making. The codes can also be used as a criterion in which employees or the organization’s performance can be measured.
While writing a code of conduct, several factors should be considered. Some of the factors include; ethical principles which employees should have while in the organization premises, values such as honesty and respect for employer and colleagues, accountability by employees which involves taking responsibility for their own actions, standard of conduct which mean respecting and complying with the work description, disciplinary actions which should be taken in case of code violation (Queensland government, 2016). When setting the rules an individual can add more factors depending on the type of work.

In my current job, my employer has a written code of conduct which we, the employees follow. The conduct points out that employees should be at work five minutes before each shift begin, every employee should be in their full uniform during working hours, no using of mobile phones and every employee should be accountable of any product that is not accounted for at the end of their respective shifts. He has set a penalty of deduction of money from the pay slip if an individual violates the rules set.
