According to the Iroquois Indians of New York State, before the formation of the earth; the gods inhabited the country above the sky. This part acknowledges the existence of a Great Spirit, just like the biblical creation acknowledges the fact that in the beginning there were the heavens where God and other heavenly bodies resided before He created the earth and all that there is in it. However, this myth points out the reasons that triggered the formation of the earth as being the Great Spirit’s daughter’s pregnancy. It points out that she became pregnant by an illicit connection, forcing the Great Spirit to pull up a great tree by its roots, and throwing her through the Cavity thereby formed. According to Genesis, God’s creation was triggered by the fact that He saw the earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep.

Another critical observation is the fact according to the Bible that the world was void and empty. However, the Iroquois points out that the Great Spirit created the world on the back of a giant turtle sea. Also, it points out that creations pre-existed, such as the tree that was uprooted. This alludes to the pre-existence of nature; the giant turtle, the sea, and the tree. But the most outstanding observation would be the fact the Iroquois myth points out that in preparation for her delivery, it is the Great Spirit’s daughter that begun to form the earth with the mud she found on the back of the turtle sea. However, according to Genesis, it is God who called into form every existence with His words. In both accounts though, the Supreme Being is depicted as being powerful and having the authority to command the forces of nature. This is one of the astounding aspects of both accounts of creation; the almighty supremacy of the Great Spirit and God.
