In the contemporary world, ethics in organizations has been a major issue in the management of organizations. Despite the high emphasis on ethics, there has been an increase in corruption cases in many organizations. I agree with the author that many leaders in 21 st -century organizations exhibit dishonesty and seem to put little efforts into curbing unethical behaviours in their organizations.

The exploitation of farmers is evident in the coffee industry. Many coffee farmers operate in a terrible work environment that makes them vulnerable to many healthcare issues (Guido et al., 2020). The constant fluctuations in the prices of coffee pose a major challenge to coffee farmers. Price fluctuations result in low farmer’s incomes, which compromise their capacity to access healthcare and other essential services. I agree with the author that the unprecedented challenges facing coffee farmers can be compared to slavery characterized by the theft of funds, child labour exposure to dangerous pesticides and debt bondage (Smith, 2016). Organizations that focus on child labour worldwide have cited child labour as a major problem in the coffee producing countries in the world, including Brazil and Guatemala.

I agree with the author that the consumption of coffee has increased significantly. In the year 2019 and the year 2020, coffee consumption in the world was estimated at 166.06 bags and increased from 165.27 million bags in 2018 and 2019 (International Coffee Organization, 2021). This represents a 0.5% increase in consumption. This rise in consumption has also been marked by the rise in the number of coffee retail shops worldwide. Despite the improvements in production, low prices have compromised the farmer's livelihoods.

Fairtrade agreements are one of the most effective remedies to the challenges facing coffee farmers. Fairtrade agreements can play a significant role in enhancing better coffee prices for farmers saving farmers from debt bondage, an increasing their income.
