Ethics constitute one of the most instrumental pillars in society. Without this attribute, human interaction would be very challenging. People in different positions should be able to ensure that they observe all ethical values. Specifically, healthcare ethics should be part and parcel of those in authority to avoid moral derailment.

To avoid moral derailment, my feeling about power is that it is a responsibility and not a privilege. Therefore, as an individual in any dominant position, I am supposed to act as a servant and not a leader. Through this, I will be able to meet the needs of my subjects and juniors since I will work as their servant. Subsequently, the organizational goals and objectives would be met and the staff would be satisfied.

Regarding the privilege that stems from my position, I will ensure I put the interests of those whom I interact with first before mine. To ensure I fulfill the requirements of my position, I will I engage with my juniors constructively. For instance, any decision would be made after keenly listening to their points of view in a democratic manner. In case it is hard meeting their demands, then I will have to explain to them solid reasons behind the same.

I believe that human needs are not only scarce but also insatiable. For this reason, I do not think I will ever have everything that I need. Therefore, what is enough for me is what my juniors believe I should have. For instance, as a senior worker, my earnings and lifestyle should not exceed that of others by a considerable margin as this may be very discriminative. Working in the healthcare industry, I should also ensure that patients have quality services before I think about myself.

I should abide myself to all work practices such as observing top secrets like the health status of patients to avoid being deceitful. Also, unauthorized people should never be exposed to organizational and patient’s crucial information. To practice honesty, I should be open to criticism, take a considerable amount of time to reflect about myself, and acknowledge my strengths and weaknesses. Failure to accept correction and criticism may cultivate dishonesty and self-deception, which may not be helpful for my career goals.

Therefore, power is not a privilege for active individuals in society. Instead, it is a tool to offer services. Hence, the interests of the subjects should be given much attention as opposed to that of their leader. In the healthcare industry, patients should be treated with utmost care. As such, I will need to accept criticism, identify and focus on my strengths, weaknesses and also reflect about myself to avoid moral derailment.
