In recent times, there has been a more focus on research to resolve the multiple ailments facing humankind and animal species. Notably, the Koalas have encountered several challenges such as habitat destruction, dog attacks, and vehicle accidents. However, chlamydia and cancers like leukemia attacks have reignited the topic of evolution.

Paragraph 1 : The research has been anchored on the Koala retrovirus, which shares the same family with HIV.

Researchers have found that the insertion of the virus into the genome of animals has happened over and over.

Consequently, the genome immune system has rendered the virus inactive primarily by converting it as part of the DNA.

Therefore, koala genetics has emanated as a goldmine for evolutionary research.

Markedly, the retrovirus consists of RNA, which after infecting a cell they translate into DNA. Evidently, the unique feature of Koala retrovirus has made it a vital subject of research.

Paragraph 2 : The high rates of death of koalas from leukemia and other forms of cancer raised the alarm.

Dr. Tarlinton, a vet doctor, discovered that koala retrovirus caused some cancer, and more so, it was forming part of the genome.

Further research indicated that the southern koalas were healthier as compared to the northern koala.

The genetic component of two types of koalas was different, and the middle section was missing in southern koalas.

Dr. Theurkauf further noted the ancient retrovirus that became part of the genome millions of years and presumed deactivated has become active.

Predominately, an experiment that involves the cell line KoRV could adequately address these new findings. Therefore, this study has sparked the debate on evolution.

Indeed, cancers like leukemia attacks on Koala have reignited the topic of evolution. In particular, the reemergence of ancient retrovirus inactive forms, which was presumed inactive, is a clear indication. Therefore, the koala study seems to adopt the concept of evolution
