The observation, made within the workplace environment, was focused on trying to examine how gender influences the workplace in terms of performance of the different persons within this environment. The observation was directed towards trying to understand how persons of different gender interact or engage as part of the workplace environment, which would be of value towards determining gender’s influence. When making the observation, each person was participating in his or her normal day-to-day activities as a way of ensuring that this would help improve the reliability of the results. Gender differentiation was clear based on the observation made, which was reflected by the fact that each person behaved in a manner that aligned with his or her gender difference.

The Influence of Gender in the Workplace

When making the observations, the total number of men was 13 compared to 8 women, which sought to suggest that the workplace was much more inclined to be considered as being masculine. Regarding their attires, one of the key aspects to note is that persons from both genders had worn official clothing that includes skirt and trouser suits for the women and suits for the men. Amongst themselves, the interaction observed was purely professional where most of the communications were defined by the need for having to engage in a specific work-related activity or completion of a particular task.

Dual labour market refers to a theory that indicates that the labour market showed notable possibilities of being segregated based on race or gender (Pula, 2017). Based on the observations made, it was clear that indeed, the theory was evident within the workplace, considering that the workers had segregated themselves based on gender to define the extent to which they interact. The manager, who was a man, allocated some of the more complex tasks to the men while allocating some of the more manageable tasks to the women. Regarding the mode of dressing for the employees, what is important to note is that gender did not have any significant influence towards defining differences in dressing.

Multiculturalism in the Workplace

Multiculturalism in the workplace refers to the idea of bringing together different sets of culture and ethnic backgrounds within the same workplace environment (Jackson & Van De Vijver, 2018). In the workplace observed, a significant majority of the employees were white Americans with a small minority comprising of blacks or African Americans. That was also noted in clients that the company handled where the majority of the clients were white Americans with a small number being African Americans and Hispanics. Generally, it can be argued that the workplace showed signs of being multicultural in the sense that it reflected upon the idea of having to accommodate persons from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Conclusion

The observation was made within a workplace environment where each person was engaging in his or her normal day-to-day activities as a way of ensuring that this would help improve the reliability of the results. One benefit associated with working in a multicultural environment is that helps in promoting multicultural respect among employees considering that this seeks to give them a higher level of exposure to the values of multiculturism. One key challenge is that it often creates a high possibility of discrimination where some of the persons from the minority communities find themselves experiencing discrimination based on their race or ethnicity. To help in dealing with this challenge, the leading solution would revolve around the training of employees on what they ought to consider in their bid towards supporting the idea of working in a multicultural environment.
