Abigail Adams was the wife of John Adams, the second president of the United States. Nevertheless, this letter reveals their relationship as one of Abigail’s advisory role to her husband John Adams. “Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors.” She offers advice to the president regarding future engagements especially with the women so as to have the support of a significant part of the population through their empowerment. Additionally, it would seem that the two are confidants as John Adams would write to her regarding the recent unfolding of his administration: “I wish you would ever write me a Letter half as long as I write you; and tell me if you may where your Fleet are gone?” according to Abigail Adams, she wishes to know the details of what is happening.

Abigail Adams is clearly very interested in the revolution as she is the voice of the women in the entire phenomenon. She openly speaks to her husband regarding the place of women in the society that they are fighting for and the dangers of leaving them out: “If perticuliar care and attention is not paid to the Laidies we are determined to foment a Rebelion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice, or Representation.” Moreover, she is an active advocate for liberty, yet holds strong to her Christian beliefs that people should do what they expect to be done to them.
