Thomasina and jerry in the case study provided are afraid that pregnancy will ruin her career since the pregnancy will delay her promotion. They already have all it takes to bring up a baby, with all the financial progress they are making as a family. Their reason for abortion is not weighty since the pregnancy is not risking her life nor the life of the fetus. The fetus has rights to life unless under therapeutic circumstances when the life of the mother or fetus' is at risk. In this case, Thomasina is not having any medical problem that can hinder her from safe delivery, but her claim is purely based on her promotion which would affect their material comfort and their lifestyle (Baillie, 2013).
Society should intervene in their private choices. The issue of abortion is not a closed discussion between the woman and the doctor as it has been taken to be. This practice is favoring the woman's right at the expense of the fetus' life. Jerry and Thomasina's right to choose should not outdo fetus' right to life. Society should set up rules that unless under convincing situations mostly that put the lives in danger then abortion is not an option.

Jerry and Thomasina should not even think about adoption when making their decision. They are well able to support the baby. Also if Thomasina does not get the promotion, they are still living in the upper family unit of people living in the USA meaning that they are financially stable (Baillie, 2013). Giving up their baby for adoption will not be the best for them since their social status allows them a support a child fully. Adoption policies need to be stricter in defining the circumstances under which adoption be an option.
