ACA members work in diverse settings where they serve multiple capacities as they help individuals acquire mental health, education, wellness, and career goals. The ACA codes refer to values that members must abide by to enhance ethical commitment among the practitioners during decision-making. Furthermore, the ACA code of ethics helps define the relationship between the counselor and clients, confidentiality, professional responsibility, and ethical relationships. The ACA code of ethics will enable me to pursue professional relations with my clients based on my strong communication skills, face-to-face engagements, confidence, and ability to show my mindfulness.

The ACA code of ethics will help me create professional relations with my clients while fostering the welfare and well-being of my clients. Hence, the principles create an opportunity for me to explore my cultural values and challenges that hinder me from having a fruitful relationship with my clients. Developing a professional relationship between me and my clients' demands that I demonstrate concern for my clients' welfare. Thus, I must uphold the dignity of the individual at any given time. Additionally, it will be my duty to ensure that I devise a reasonable counseling program for my clients, not to promise them something that cannot be easily attained (Welfel, 2016). Counseling requires that I am careful when providing counseling services to my clients, such that I do not impose my values on them. I acknowledge that my identity as a professional counselor will develop over time and require capable mentors to guide me on integrating some of the values proposed by the code of ethics.

ASCA provides principles used while serving clients within schools, and counselors can use it alongside the ACA code of ethics. The two governing bodies share some similarities because they restrict counselors on what they can do and not serve students. Additionally, they also provide counselors with applicable principles that ensure they achieve professionalism (Stone, 2017). Nevertheless, the two documents differ in that both counselors and teachers use ASCA to guide their preferred ethical practices within schools. Furthermore, ASCA serves as a directive to various stakeholders at school about the expected behavior among counselors. ACA restricts its use among professional counselors, unlike ASCA, that serves as a guide among multiple stakeholders.

The ACA code of ethics demands that a counselor identifies an area of specialty where a counselor partakes professional responsibility. It requires the counselor to acquire some competencies that suit their targeted clients (Herlihy et al., 2015). In my case, my professional responsibility will be to provide educational counseling where I will substantially interact with students that need guidance in numerous areas, including their personal lives and academics. I am confident that I will deliver in this area because I possess varying competencies, including communication skills, confidence, competence in face-to-face engagements, and being empathetic. The skills will enable me to represent my colleagues' professionalism in the niche and positively impact all clients that I will serve.

The ACA code of ethics will help me develop my identity as an education counselor based on the strong competencies that encourage me to engage with my clients directly. The ACA code of ethics will help me identify relevant values that a professional counselor should have and exercise them. Unlike ACA, ASCA acts as a guide among various schools' stakeholders about the expected code of conduct among varying professionals.
