A mother brought in her two-year-old child in for treatment. The mother described symptoms of the child from the day she noticed a health problem. Using my clinical experience, I engaged the mother more on how often the symptoms recurred. Looking at the information on the baby’s vitals, I made the conclusion that the child was suffering from pneumonia. I prescribed antibiotics for a child based on this evidence. I did not consult any literature but rather the consultation helped with the diagnosis and treatment. I used this rationale because there was not much information on the child.
PICOT Question
The clinical experience prompted the need to research on effective antibiotic therapy for children with pneumonia to prevent severity. Pneumonia is a common disease in children and for some, it has led to death in the eventuality. I need to gather evidence on this core problem among children.

What is the outcome? Severe pneumonia (O)
PICOT Question
In infants below five years, what is the effective antibiotic therapy to prevent severe pneumonia?
Evidence-based practices are becoming very important in organizations. In our organization, the policies and procedures ensure that the clinician and patient work together to determine the best solutions. Evidence-based clinical practices allow us to apply the best evidence in patient care. However, the evidence resources are quite technical leading to barriers in applying this evidence. The statistics and results may be so technical that we do not understand them. This poses a barrier to the adoption of the evidence (Bhargava & Bhargava, 2007) . To overcome this, the organization can make available evidence that is less technical. They can also provide training on statistical knowledge to ensure proper understanding (Majid, et al., 2011) .
