The film Very Young Girls presents a sad account of the treacherous life led by some under-aged girls who initially led a life of prostitution, after being coerced by pimps to work for them all in a bid to make money and get a new life free from all the difficulties they were experiencing. The idea that these ladies are young makes them a pawn for others to do with as they please. Unknowingly, they end up being owned by the pimps who command them to do as they please all in the quest to make a lot of money. In order to address the larger problem facing the youths there are a number of macro level responses that can be created.

The behavior of children is mostly dependent on their upbringing. For instance, the aspect of social development which was discussed in class is pertinent to a person`s development. This is due to the fact that one is capable of acquiring pre-social skills, developing peer relationships and also getting as sense of self. In this case, it is essential for such young people to be mentored appropriately to ensure that the right behaviors and attitudes are acquired (Zocalo, 2013). For instance, when the girls in the film meet with the pimps for the first time, they are glorified by being told how good they look, and this appeals to their sense of self which offers some inner feeling of appreciation and also the idea that they are loved (Zocalo, 2013). As a result, when they later get coerced to engage in sexual relations for money by the pimps whom they refer to as “daddy,” they do not resist (Zocalo, 2013).

It would also be advisable to devise ways of mitigating anxiety among the young people. Most of these young girls engage in confrontations with their parents; most of who are single parents. As a result they are rendered homeless and at the mercy of the pimps they work for (Zocalo, 2013). Moreover, owing to their inability to control bodily functions, they do not decline the demands for sexual relations sanctioned on them. Parents are obliged to adopt a self-protective nature to protect their children from self-predators. When children feel unappreciated they easily consent to anything offered to them by those who appear to protect them.

Responses such as the Girl Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) which was initiated to protect young girls caught engaging in prostitution are effective and essential in increasing the youths` capacity for successes. This is because such young people get to encounter others who are in a similar predicament and at that point they learn to appreciate themselves. They are also taught valuable lessons regarding the importance of avoiding prostitution and other wayward behavior (Zocalo, 2013). Moreover, initiation of such programs ensures that behaviors such as: Insecure behavior, aggressive attitude, and difficulties in self-regulation, are dealt with appropriately.

To sum it all up, appreciating the young girls is an important aspect that ascertains that they get to behave accordingly. Love is a strong feeling and desire that easily controls the young people to accept engaging in unwarranted behavior such as prostitution since they feel that they people telling them to participate love them unconditionally. Parents have to adopt a self-caring attitude for their children to develop into morally responsible individuals. Moreover, the young people have to be shown how to communicate and express their feelings to ensure that they do not go into prostitution in a bid to attain a sense of fulfilment. It is, nevertheless, apparent that by applying the factors discussed, it is possible for young people to develop into responsible adults without having to engage in any form of unacceptable behavior.
