According to the U.S. Census, the African-American community is among the largest minority group in America taking up 12.6% of the total population. Racism is an issue that has been part of this community since the early centuries. Marriage among the blacks and white was a crime in these times until half a century ago when the US Supreme court decriminalized interracial marriage. However, interracial marriage, especially between blacks and whites, still faces social stigma. Despite the social stigma, interracial marriages are on the rise with different generations having different attitudes towards these types of marriages. There is more to just the generational differences that are driving the interracial marriages, especially between whites and blacks to a record high.

A research into the factors driving white-black interracial marriages is very important, especially because this is a great thing for the society. For a very long while, minority groups in America have faced racism and so much discrimination in different aspects of their lives. Interracial marriages in the black community indicate a great shift in race relations. Additionally, mixed-race children are putting a blur on America’s color line. It is important to understand the perceptions, factors, and attitudes that are driving blacks towards interracial marriages.
