Particularly, few African American women leaders, have been mentioned despite their immense contribution to prominent courses. Perhaps the world was full of preconceptions about women hence deliberately disregarded their efforts. This article highlights a key woman figure, Harriet Tubman and describes her contribution to history.
Harriet Tubman was many things in one. She was a refugee organizer, intelligence gatherer, nurse, raid leader as well as a fundraiser. She was born into slavery in Maryland at around 1821( Tubman , 2017). Her childhood life had a significant contribution to the person she became. She began working as a slave as early as at the age of five. At that early age, she sustained an injury that affected her for the rest of her life. When she tried to protect a fellow black from being punched, the blow fell on her head, and the encounter would cause episodes of narcolepsy.

Tubman stands out as a prominent figure due to her efforts to rescue the blacks from slavery. It is recorded that she made approximately seventeen trips to the south to plan for the escape of the African Americans who were being oppressed. She was a remarkable planner and strategist. She is popularly noted for organizing the rescues through underground railroads (Bradford, 2013). At the time, she was seen as a threat to the establishment, and the Southerners even contributed close to $40, 000 to have her apprehended.
To conclude, Harriet Tubman must have been a brave woman especially considering the prevailing conditions at the moment. Even men at that moment had been silenced into submission. She is recorded to have said that she never lost a single person during the raids. Her skills were exceptional, and she was not intimidated by the threats that were issued against her.
