The COVID-19 pandemic caused a considerable problem for every person regardless of their background and social status. Nevertheless, the black community in America is more vulnerable to the pandemic's overarching impacts due to some social determinants of health, including age, income, education, race & ethnicity, and social status, which make healthcare provision more challenging for both healthcare providers and patients. In the United States of America, the black community is more vulnerable to the predominant effects of coronavirus pandemic due to the health inequalities in healthcare centers. Some of these health inequalities are based on ethnic origin and color, as whites are primarily considered for better health access.

The above-mentioned racial inequality puts African Americans in a dangerous state of high mortality rates since they are not granted equal opportunities due to the racial inequality structure built in the American society. According to Wezerek (2020), the higher health disparities in America result from limited resources, including lack of insurance providers for vulnerable communities; this results in high mortality rates for the black communities. The fundamental determinants of social health include power, money, and resources. Consequently, patients with a limited income source have restricted access to improved healthcare services, which considerably influences their health status.

Response to Tetiana Potiuk

Hi Tetiana, I was fascinated by how you analyzed the influence of social health determinants on vulnerable populations, including the black community. Besides, your presentation of information about several aspects of the black community explores black community vulnerability to Covid-19 instinctively.

Response to Sanaa Syed

Hello Sanaa, your post of much importance as it explores the Centre for Disease Control statistics regarding black community vulnerability to Covid-19. The fact that black people have twice the chances of being un-insured to medical care as whites are worrying. It shows the extent of healthcare inequalities against African Americans. Lastly, your post highlights the black community's vulnerability to other complications like diabetes and hypertension, significant underlying conditions contributing to COVID-19 fatality.
