It is well quoted that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and one would concur with this statement based on the society he or she lives in today. As for me, my walk as a student and who I am has been a journey that has been influenced by several people, starting back from my family to school, to my friends and the social media as well as the television programs. Nonetheless, the idea of human growth is all attached to sociology as we have different beliefs and different social facts. That is, the idea of one being is first influenced by his or her own notion of life-based on the experiences from the surrounding. Additionally, the agents of socialization add or reshape our behavior based on the existing notions of life an individual possess. Ideally, in deep thought of my life, I would directly state that the different agents of socialization have directly influenced my thoughts and behavior.

Today there are beliefs I do have that if you are poor, it is just a condition that is upon myself to change. According to Kendall (2012), t his notion has come to have is directly related to the theory of the symbolic interaction perspective. In this theory, for instance, I have come to know that the society is a total sum of all behaviors and interaction of the people making the environment. In life, therefore, a deep look into the life of everyone it is true that the culture of his or her background, home background, and family upbringing affects how they perceive things or people. This paper, therefore, wants to deduce how the different agents of socialization play a part in my life and will continue to shade of some of the beliefs I strongly uphold.

Agents of socialization

The first agent of socialization is my family. The family forms the basic agency in socialization of one’s life ( Kendall, 2012) . It is in the family that the language and cognitive development begins at. In my family, is where I first learned there are some behaviors that adults do not condone. In the family, the parents become the first teachers to show one on how to do things. Ideally, at this point, the young learn some acceptable codes of conduct that parents want. For instance, the idea of correction and punishment comes at this point of life. At this point when one has done something wrong, the parents correct him or her. For example, when visitors come to the house as a child, I was expected to great them and show respect by calling mom or dad. In this scenario, the attitude of discipline to the adults are inculcated. In my family, if the time for sleeping has reached, I was expected to run to my bedroom and sleep. The second agent of socialization I have come across is the peer group. The many students and schoolmates to whom belong to my generation gap have taught me a lot since childhood. While playing with my peers, there is how one has to fit with friends that is, the choice of friends we make at different stages of life various. For instance, at our house, it is gross to start eating before we pray. However, on one incident at our neighbors during lunch meal, I could see them eating without praying. Additionally, in associating with my peers at the playground, I would be on the team opt to for the team which had a group of introverts. This was because the other teams were full of bullies and hecklers this made me fear them.

In general, the peer group brings about the aspect of social conflict of ideas and beliefs. In that, as we interact there is a different perception of how we perceive things. There are some ideas that correspond the ones already taught in our families while there are others that go against what we have been made to believe. In the peer groups, I have learned that team building is not all about those who accept your ideas and opinion s but rather the course of goals determined. For example, in school, while taking group assignments or playing a game there are some peers who always want to be at the forefront of everything ( Kendall, 2012) . From this example, I have come to learn that different peers have different talents and their way of perceiving this is based on how they want to be reorganized. In summary of the peer group, there are. However certain characteristics members share in common such as age bracket. I have learned from my peers because of the free interaction with fellows. It is easy to share some secrets with friends as opposed to sharing with parents or teachers.

The other agent of socialization I have learned from is the school set up. Ideally, in every civilized society, there is a set of formalized agencies such as schools, colleges, and universities. In every school, there is set of rules that govern them daily. It is this set of rules that assist an individual in demarcating certain boundaries of life and learning how to associate with the rules and regulation. For me the school comes next to my family as it has got rules, it has timelines and guidelines for doing things. The values taught in schools tend to conform to the norms of an ideal society where we are supposed to do the right thing at the time and in the right place.

It is in school where the art of transmission from one generation to another is acquired, perfected and passed to the others. For example, at one given time we are juniors in the school and have to ask for some guidance and directions in the different social clubs. After learning such norms, we also attempt to teach others and even perfect the act. In a nutshell, the school gives two forms of socialization. That is the formal learning feature and the informal learning style. In colleges, we are expected to pass our units by attending classes and doing the assignments at a given time. Additionally, there is the following of the rules. Those who do not follow the rules are suspended or detained these acts are more of formal in nature. Nonetheless, as we practice such norms we informally, we learn to be disciplined and follows these norms unconsciously. The unconscious learning forms the informal part. The school and other learning institutions, therefore, are the bearing of socialization. The final and the last agent of socialization I can attest to is the use of media. In the normal daily television shows, there is the use of languages and different types of messages. The messages and actions passed at any time to have an influencing effect on personality growth. The media can give us the opportunity of accepting change or opposing certain values leading to change of perception as asserted by Kendall (2012) . For example, the messages and words used in the media are written by people based on their life or experience. The way that character handled the situation leads as to ask if we can apply the same tactic he or she used or go for another alternative that is ethical.

Levels of socialization

For the socialization to take place effectively, it has to be based on a given type of specialization. That is, the socialization aspect does not take place at once in an individual, but rather it is a lifelong process. The first known type of socialization is the primary socialization. The primary socialization comes at the early stage of life between the inceptions of a person within the family set up. It does form the process in which the subject learns the language and cognitive skills, the internal values and the norms. After learning such skills, the person internalizes them and know when to apply them. After stepping out of the family levels, one start the second type of socialization that is the secondary socialization. At this point, one starts to learn from the different peers, educational institutions, and other external experiences. The main purpose of the secondary socialization is to expand the socialization aspect of an individual. Through this process, the individual comes to preserve the social training from the agents’ socialization which is good to the society. As one grows, he or she continues to learn and compare the differences in earlier learned incidents. The other type of socialization that I have come to benefit from is the tertiary socialization. It involves applying the already acquired values in dealing with ethnographies. In this type of socialization, the youths are at stake of weighing out options based on industrialization aspects. That is, most people this type of socialization encompasses the youth stage. At this point, there are different notions and hypothesis developed by the youths to achieves their goals ( Kendall, 2012) . Some of the youths might resort to positivism while others might just be relaxed waiting for things to happen. Nonetheless, tertiary is usually influenced by income verities such as high income or low-income economies.
