Transport involves movement from one point to another. There are very many ways that an object can move between locations hence different means such as vehicles, planes, rail, among others. Due to the long list, a smaller and more basic classification of the diverse means into modes was established. The modes were a classification by what medium the movement was effected. The modes of transportation are space, air, water, and human (Bilmorria, 2017). The paper focuses on air transport and its addition to the transport industry.

Air travel is where specialized winged equipment is employed. In most cases, it happens to be an airplane whose density is heavier than that of air. By the use of special geometry in designing the wings, the apparatus can generate lift which enables flight. Air travel helped advance the transport industry by increasing the speed of travel. Apart from space travel which is not available for public use, there is no other faster mode of transport (O’Neill et al., 2016). Some commercial jets have been known to record speeds of up to 950 KM/H. These speeds have advanced the transportation of urgent packages and people. Secondly, air transport is the most comfortable and efficient means of transport of perishables (Bilimoria, 2017). Fast speeds of travel mean less time spent moving between two points. The increased speed of movement mean that we can go almost anywhere efficiently because air travel has no limitations.

As much as there are a lot of positive aspects of air transport so are the drawbacks. Air transport is more expensive than any other means of transportation. Although airplanes do not require infrastructure in the airspace, the aircrafts themselves are very expensive. Additionally, the price of the fuel per hour is also very costly. Air transport also is considered risky. The assumption arises despite the arguments that there are very few numbers of reported airplane crashes. It is because in the event of an accident, the chances of a fatality are exponential. The airplanes fly in the upper atmosphere which releases less carbon-monoxide gas as compared to in the case of space, human, and water transport. However, the damage of the same gas is twice as much by air transport as compared to that of water and human transport.

Air transport like every mode of transportation has helped to revolutionize the transport industry, and it has been both positive and negative. With the speed of air transport, its efficiency in the transportation of perishable goods, the risky and cost of travel; it is clear that all modes have possibly influenced the transport industry widely.
