Airport operation's main function is to ensure operative and proficient planning and air service execution at an airport. It is the airport's sole responsibility to identify and reduce potential risks related to providing amenities at the airport. Airport operations ensure that they mitigate potential hazards that might pose a danger to life and property (Price & Forrest, 2016). Such operation helps pilots and airlines to be able to take actions that will reduce the occurrence of such risks when performing their services. Mitigation of risks and hazards by the airport is important in ensuring safe air travel because effective measures are taken to abate the risks identified by an airport to ensure safe airline operations. Airport safety operations ensure effective responses to emergencies that may come up when providing air transport. Therefore, it is the airport's responsibility to mitigate such a function since they are essential operations in air transport services.

In addition, the airport's numerous functional operations require attention in managing airport security. Airport operations help guarantee that airline boarding and arrival gates are run in accordance to the Transportation Security Administration guidelines. Transport security operations ensure airline operations' security by ensuring that the correct policies are followed by travelers when boarding an airline (Price& Forrest, 2016). It ensures passengers' safety and the personnel working in the airport, for example, pilots. Airport operation personnel works closely with Air Traffic Control to control the schedules of aircraft. It helps in the movement of aircraft into and out of the airport's airspace. Operations by air traffic operations ensure the safety of passengers and cargo in transit by avoiding aircraft collisions. Airport operations ensure maintenance and inspection of airport infrastructure to ensure the safety of millions of air passengers. Each successful flight starts and ends at the airport; hence the function of airport operations is the responsibility of the airport's operations personnel and not the pilots or airlines.
