Drug use and alcoholism have significantly affected a large number of people, and addiction eventually leads some individuals to death. The film, “My Name Was Bette: The Life and Death of an Alcoholic” presents the life of Bette, a woman who died over alcoholism. One of the mental effects of alcoholism is that an individual tends to isolate themselves and are more likely to avoid anyone offering to help. Bette’s addiction to alcohol played a huge role in her efforts to isolate herself, which further reduced the chances of receiving any help. Alcoholism also causes a loss of control, especially when the individual is stressed. Bette frequently lost control and hit her children, which affected her children growing up.

After viewing this video, it is evident that even alcohol, without the consumption of any other drugs, can result in the death of an individual. In contemporary society, it is hard for young people to believe that alcohol can result in the death of an individual. Still, its health impact demonstrates that it affects an individual’s body organs and ends up costing lives.

As a nurse, different interventions can help improve the health of clients who have addiction issues. The first step will be to encourage the close family of the patient to stay close and have at least one individual living with the alcoholic. In the case of Bette, living alone might have negatively affected her, increasing her stress levels. Rehabilitation is another intervention that can help with intervention. Rehabilitation should include therapy. It is vital to work on the mental state of the patient to ensure that they do not relapse after rehabilitation. A third intervention is to encourage the patient to engage in other activities to keep themselves occupied. An individual is more likely to think about taking alcohol and drugs intake if they are idle. These interventions can help clients who have addiction problems.
