Introduction

The United States of America is one of the politically stable Western countries since time immemorial as has maintained only two political parties in leadership. The political parties include the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. The Federalists gets regarded as the first political party formed in America during President George Washington’s administration ( Hershey, 2017) . The members of the Federalists group fought for commercial and diplomatic harmony with Britain following the signing of the Jay Treaty .

On the other hand, the Democratic-Republican Party got established in 1792 whereby its members came to power in 1801, and the party acted as an opposition to the Federalists party. During the reign of President Washington, there existed many Anti – Federalists who refused to adopt the New Federal Constitution hence shifting to the opposition party ( Hershey, 2017) . This paper entails some of the distinctive characteristics that differentiated the two named parties.

The Federalist Party was established under the leadership of Alexander Hamilton. Several members joined the party thereby enhancing its reign in America. The president of the U.S by then ruled with the elements of a Federalist though not entirely a member of the party ( Lampi, 2013) . Federalism associated ruling with wealth and high levels of education. The party mentioned earlier opposed the democratic voting rights granted to citizens. The Federalists supported a powerful central government with low interpretation and implementation of the constitution. Lastly, Federalism in the U.S favored their relationship with Britain more compared to other countries such as France ( Schloss & Palmer, 2014)

In comparison to the Federalist Party, the Democratic-Republican group supported a smaller government which is closer to the people. The party allowed the citizens to exercise their right of voting during elections hence choosing their leaders ( Lampi, 2013) . Also, the party mentioned earlier encouraged constitutionalism and opposed the high taxed rates forced on the citizens. Democratic-Republican group also fought for individual rights of the citizens.

My love is inclined towards the Democratic-Republican party. The party shares the deep history of fighting for the rights and democratic space of the citizen of the United States . We enjoy the fruits of the labor of those who fought hard to ensure that the Democratic-Republican Party came into power so has to enhance survival of the U.S citizens. Federalism, on the other hand, did not openly show its allegiance towards fighting for the basic rights of the common citizens; they mainly upheld the wealthy ones in the society ( Schloss & Palmer, 2014) . Also, Federalists never regarded the constitution hence considered themselves the overall authority thus no respect for other people’s rights. The reasons discussed above act as proof as to why anyone would gladly join me to keep on supporting the Democratic - Republican Party .
