Americans have culture and traditions that they value. The three values that I believe are most important to Americans include equality, individual freedom and self-reliance, and the Americans dream and hard work.

Equality means that every individual has equal opportunities and that every person is important as an individual for who they are, and not defined by where they come from. The American culture is fundamentally a western culture in both form and origin. However, diverse cultural groups within the country including, Latin Americans, Native American, Asian, and African Americans influence the culture. Therefore, to accommodate the needs of the diverse cultures within the American society, the country presents the people with equal opportunities. This value was generated from the fact that in early American history, many immigrants were drawn to America to get a better life and because many of them were able to succeed, Americans began to believe that every person should have equal chance for success (Engle, 2019).

Many Americans value Individual freedom and self-reliance because people are perceived as separate with personal needs. The value is important because people value their privacy and independence. This value was influenced by the historic decisions that were made by the first settlers who established colonies in North Americans. They wanted freedom from the power of the European societies, which has had a significant impact on the character of Americans who believe they have a responsibility of taking care of themselves and have a right to control their own life (Hobbs, 2019).

Many Americans believe that accumulating wealth is very important and that is why they value hard work. The reason why this is important to Americans is that it serves as evidence for people’s abilities and hard work. In addition, material possessions have been accepted widely as a measure of a person’s social status in America. The Americans influenced the value when they refused to adopt the European system of nobility titles and hereditary aristocracy (Hobbs, 2019).

All the three values complement each other because, since every individual is provided with equal opportunity to success, they need to work hard and achieve the American dream thereby become independent and self-reliant to their individual needs. Therefore, these three values play a significant role in the American culture because they enable people to work hard and be successful thereby achieving the American Dream.
