Ancient Civilization in Egypt started at around 3150 BC. Ancient civilization in Egypt first developed along the River Nile. Being the primary source of food security in the country, Egyptians wanted to find out why the river flooded annually; their accurate findings led to the prediction of different seasons, which saw the development of astronomy (Kwok, 2017). Furthermore, they studied heavens which connected them to their religions and priesthood.
Astronomy affected the Egyptians in different ways. Egyptian astronomers discovered the different seasons in their calendar (Fletcher, 2016). Food security became the norm in that country. Being able to tell the different seasons, farmers could plan accordingly on when to plant. By the time the river overflows, they would have harvested and planted other water-resistant crops. According to Quack, 2018, their study of science and medicine saw an advancement in the medical field. They were able to get various cures for diseases. Egyptians are known for their respect for the pharaohs; astronomy saw a deeper faith in their religion. For them, they believed that when a pharaoh died, they became stars in the northern skies. The belief affected their architecture. Priests made sure that all the pyramids and temples were aligned towards the North. It marked a sign of respect to their fallen gods and goddesses. Astronomers could help through this by finding a line that pointed the northern side, when a star was precisely on top of the other, up in the sky (Kwok, 2017). The astronomers fixed religious dates in Egypt; people were able to observe them and celebrate different occasions. The country is known to have the most celebrated astronomer, Claudius Ptolemy. He advanced in Mathematics, Astrology, and Geography. His works were influential during and after his era, in Egypt and beyond the Western regions.

I picked this society because its history fascinates me and besides, it is my origin. I wanted to gain more knowledge about the history of our people and how they came about some traditions I hear about. It is a broad topic to learn, and I was surprised to know that astronomers inspired architecture due to the firm belief in religion (Kwok, 2017). I am equally amazed to know that the heavens could be studied just like we consider a course. Astronomy indeed had a long-lasting effect on the Egyptians. The findings are still practical in this era.
