The mixed research method is defined as the incorporation of both the qualitative and quantitative research methods to investigate phenomena or to confirm or disapprove a research hypothesis (Creswell, 2013). In sociology, the most interesting topic that can be researched using mixed research methods is “ class conflict and inequalities. ” Mixed research methods would present several advantages when used to investigate this topic, and one advantage is that the method provides more useful and deeper information which single research method cannot provide. Therefore, the use of mixed research methodology would provide complementary information that can help to bridge the gap/shortcomings created when using a single research method. Creswell (2013) argues that when using the mixed research method, a researcher does need to plan from the onset the way they will interpret the research findings from various elements of the research.

When using a qualitative research method, it will be very difficult to measure the numerical data, facts, and statistics of the topic (Gray & Pagram, 2017). However, integrating both the qualitative and quantitative research methods would give the researcher an opportunity to determine the number of people affected by class conflict and inequalities in the United States and across the world. Moreover, through a mixed research method, the researcher will be able to calculate the number of men and women that are affected by social inequalities. This means that using the qualitative and quantitative research methods; the research will be able to conduct research that is based on concrete, measurable, numerical, and clear facts. However, mixed methods just like other research methods have the disadvantages, and one of the disadvantages is that it needs a lot of money and consumes a lot of time since it involves conducting two methods (qualitative and quantitative research methods as one single method).
