Application of technology system in nursing care has created a positive influence on how patients are handled in hospitals. Telemedicine is among the innovations that have been placed in the intensive care unit where nurses and other medical practitioners provide care to patients in remote areas both outpatients and inpatients.

The telecommunication innovation, having been invented in 2009, has significantly played a role in the management of various disabilities and diseases through recording of health information electronically which has enabled security and tracking of health information. Stroke management has been made easier through the enhancement of emergency medical services which include the transfer of patients who need urgent treatment as well as improvement of remote medical consultation. In the ICU, telemedicine application is referred to as tele-ICU. Tele-ICU has played a major role in investment on both time and money and they have collaborated with nursing in complete auditing of health records.

The ATA is one of the departments in tele-ICU has enabled advance in scientific innovations to ensure patients are given quality services. The tele-ICU levels in staffing are identified by the number and type of patients who need to be monitored, resources availability in the monitored sites, and the program model in telecommunication. Staffs in the various departments are divided into two nights and days operations thus services are provided 24/7. This means that for intensive care, integration within the staffing system should be vitally applicable. Lewin`s management change theory provides an outline that involves transition and change in the telemedicine. Unfreezing is the first stage that involves identifying the need for change. The stage requires the introduction of evidence on why change is essential. The second stage involves transitions where new behaviors and thoughts are developed. Finally, is the refreezing stage where collaboration with the tele-ICU is implemented and stability within the working environment gets achieved?
