For the recent past, new and emerging technologies have significantly impacted healthcare systems globally. Consequently, modern hospitals and health facilities leverage cutting-edge technologies to enhance staff efficiency, promote information access, and augment human resource management. Below are some of the technologies available at the disposal of the healthcare practitioner.

Big Data: The term refers to the technology by which large amounts of data are aggregated for processing and analytics (Mehta & Pandit, 2018). When skilfully processed by data experts, health facilities can reduce healthcare costs, predict infection patterns of epidemics, optimize overhead expenditures, and assess the effectiveness of new drugs and treatment procedures.

Cloud Computing: Cloud computing allows healthcare facilities to store and back up their data on remote servers – at a relatively lower cost than in-house storage. Apart from saving on costs, cloud computing allows remote researchers to collaborate on projects by pooling their research data on an isolated cloud. With the right tools like Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing data could increase the utility of services. One such application is the use of virtual assistants to interpret pathology and radiography images. The slightest appeal with cloud computing is the fast access times to online resources, making it as efficient as physical storage.

Telemedicine: This is the practice of providing care for remote patients through video-conferencing technologies. With technology, healthcare practitioners are enabled to offer virtual consultations and diagnoses. With the right devices such as wearables, caregivers can obtain critical information such as blood pressure and sugar levels from patients, informing decision-making.

Electronic Health Record Systems have further enabled the flow of information between patients and professionals. How this works is that the facility subscribes to a storage area network provide (SAN) provider, who then provides virtual serves that hosts the repositories. With the technology, health facilities establish standard repositories of medical research and records, enabling professionals to access critical data about patients and treatment modalities rapidly.

These technologies' effectiveness and accuracy are reasonably impressive, given that they operate on well-defined guidelines and protocols that guarantee security. Particular concerns have been raised about security breaches with cloud computing, but errors often originate from human factors, which can be mitigated by effectively training staff on cybersecurity. Thus with technology, healthcare facilities can increase productivity and promote business continuity.
