Thus, healthcare professionals should learn about trans-cultural medical care to provide holistic support to patients from different backgrounds. Medical providers interact with the patients, and it is essential to have knowledge about the different cultures. The Purnell Model, a quality improvement approach, and service-level methods are crucial in the medical field because it assists physicians and nurses to apply diversity methods when providing care to the patients. A medical provider must be culturally competent to provide quality care and support to diverse patients.

Approaches for Diversity in Nursing

The Purnell model was first created as a health examination tool for learners and physicians. Subsequently, a cultural competence ratio was introduced in the framework. The researchers integrated the schematic and meta-paradigm concept in the framework to enhance the understanding of medical providers on the significance of cultural competence in medical care (Purnell, 2012). Nurses use the model to assess the cultural aspects of patients including nutrition, spirituality, communication, family roles, death rituals, and high-risk behavior (Purnell, 2012). Medical providers offer culturally competent care to the patients by using the Purnell Model.

The health facilities use the audit and quality improvement methods to enhance diversity. The methods are important is improving healthcare support. The audit and quality improvement technique establishes relationships between nurses and patients. Further, it increases the involvement of patients and families on the medical activities (McCalman, Jongen, & Bainbridge, 2017) . Another useful approach is service-level policies for diversity. The service-level regulations involve cultural policies which focus on interpreter facilities, employee training, increasing access, advocacy, and quality. Also, the regulations facilitate the provision of a favorable environment. Service-level policies are effective in enhancing patient and family satisfaction (McCalman, Jongen, & Bainbridge, 2017) . The policies also improve health results such as the patient’s compliance with treatment.

Importance of Diversity in Nursing

Diversity assists the healthcare professionals to understand the needs and cultural differences of patients. Nurses need to focus on the development of tolerance based on comprehending the needs and cultural beliefs of diverse patients. It is essential for medical providers to learn about the different beliefs, norms, and principles of cultures (Simms, 2013). Thus, nurses should consider the beliefs and principles of the patient’s culture when providing care. Patients are hostile when the nurse ignores the beliefs or value of their culture.

Diversity assists medical professionals to study and assess the local community. Nurses collaborate with the community to provide care to the patients. Health providers need support from the community when administering treatment to patients with psychological issues. The community offers home-based care for patients with mental problems. Thus, nurses need to collaborate with community members to provide patients with quality support. Nurses learn the cultural practices of the community through interactions (McCalman, Jongen, & Bainbridge, 2017) . Further, the medical providers can connect the patients with the community to improve their health. The interactions between the health facilities and society reduce the spread of diseases. The community learns about the factors that lead to the development of illnesses. Subsequently, the members apply preventive methods to avoid contracting the diseases (McCalman, Jongen, & Bainbridge, 2017) .N urses build positive relationships with the members by understanding their cultural background, values, and beliefs.

Nurses develop the value of tolerance after studying the cultures of diverse patients. Nurses need to exercise patience in a culturally diverse atmosphere. Some patients are stubborn, and the nurse needs to be patient. In other cases, patients ignore the nurse’s prescription on taking medication. The medical provider needs to convince the patient about the medication (Simms, 2013). Another illustration is the patient’s reactions to medical advice or results. Patients can respond by abusing the nurses in case the disease is a norm or curse in the community. Health providers should develop useful methods for patients with different backgrounds (Simms, 2013). Nurses should first study the cultures of the patients before providing care to understand their needs and principles. Consequently, medical professionals should create individuals strategies for every patient to fulfill their expectations and needs (Simms, 2013). Patients can recover quickly through the incorporation of individual strategies to treatment on the basis of culture.

In conclusion, diversity is an important element in the nursing practice. Patients come from different backgrounds and have diverse beliefs about treatment. The Purnell model is effective in assessing the cultural needs of the patient. Further, the audit and quality improvement strategy assist nurses to meet the patients’ needs and increase satisfaction. The service-level policies help medical providers to offer quality healthcare to diverse patients. Nurses establish the needs and cultural practices of the victims through diversity. The local community and nurses interact by studying the cultural expectations. Diversity assist nurse to exercise tolerance in a diverse atmosphere. Nurses should use the tools and strategies for assessing cultural competence to understand the patients’ needs.
