The Social Ecological Model

Behavioral theory is arguably one of the essential components in psychology. One of the ways that it manages to elaborate the relationship existent between individuals is by the Social Ecological model which entails personal and environmental factors used to determine behaviors. There are basically five hierarchical levels in the model, namely: Policy/enabling environment, Organizational, Community, interpersonal and individual, all which will be illustrated below ( Krugg, 2002 ).The policy enabling environment entails all laws existing at the local, state and national level. This also involves the policies regarding distribution of resources to be used in catering for maternal health, subsidized healthcare ( Krugg, 2002 ). Besides, this also involves the deficiency of policies to be used in implementing immunization amongst children. Organizational hierarchy, on the other hand, entails the social institutions bearing rules used to govern the welfare of a particular group ( Krugg, 2002 ). This is almost similar to the community level which relates to the relationships that exist between the organization in all areas of operations including transportation and business. Additionally, interpersonal level involves the social networks capable of influencing behaviors especially family members, close friends and religious networks ( Krugg, 2002 ). The individual approach is almost identical to the aforementioned due to its ability to explicate the traits existent in individuals which are capable of influencing change. Such may involve self-efficacy, gender, age, and literacy. Besides, it also offers insight on the factors capable of increasing the likelihood of violence occurring ( Krugg, 2002 ). The Centers for disease control and prevention is reputed for using this model.

C4D Strategy

This model is almost identical to the Social Ecological Model and it provokes an approach whose effect is likely to stimulate a synergetic effect. This approach manages to engage decision makers and the community at all levels of the social structure (Shefner-Rogers, 2013). Through information and dialogue, this model is capable of empowering individuals within the community. It mainly focuses on the people who are marginalized and vulnerable (Shefner-Rogers, 2013). Two major parties involved are the people with the power to claim and also those empowered to realize such rights (Shefner-Rogers, 2013). This framework entails four approaches including: Advocacy, Social Mobilization, Social Change, and behavior change communication. Advocacy entails development and alterations of regulations by policymakers. Coalition building and mobilization of community justify the initiative (Shefner-Rogers, 2013). Besides, leaders within the community and program implementers and planners are also involved. In reference to social mobilization, community and national levels are united together for a given purpose. Those involved at this level are leaders in the community as well as those mandated to run corporations. Correspondingly, the social change communication enables individuals to identify their personal needs and also be aware of the rights they have. Besides, it also advocates for dialogue in order to change behavior within a large section of the community (Shefner-Rogers, 2013). In addition to this, behavior change communication concentrates on personal attributes such as self-efficacy and skills building. Besides, it involves people at the individual and family level.

Conclusion

In summary, it is apparent that both the social ecological model and CD4 strategy engender an approach whose chief objective is to benefit individuals within the community. They have participatory mechanisms whose efficiency is undoubtedly effective in promoting social relations amongst individuals within the society. The main essence of both approaches is to eradicate problems while fostering development. There is no doubt that there is a great necessity for adoption of such inducements since they have the capability to improve the lives of all individuals within the society.
