Ethical values, principles, and practices form the core of social work. Social workers are expected to maintain high levels of professionalism while addressing social problems in the society. As a social work professional, I should always be guided by ethical principles, ensuring that my actions conform to the established ethical standards. Being an intern at Neighbor to Family, I am expected to uphold the values of the organization. Neighbor to Family Inc. is a child welfare agency headquartered in Daytona Beach. The agency currently serves over 14,000 children. Besides, the agency serves communities in Florida, Maryland, and Georgia. The mission of Neighbor to Family is to revolutionize foster care by keeping siblings together while building healthier families and stronger communities.
Basically, Neighbor to Family’s interventions to existing social problems largely conforms to professional ethical standards. According to the National Association of Social Workers, professional social workers are expected to help people in need, address social injustice, respected the inherent dignity and worth of the person, recognize the central importance of human relationships, and behave in a trustworthy manner. In line with these ethical principles, Neighbor to Family helps abused and neglected children and supports families in the society. As such, the organization addresses social injustice, social problems, protects the dignity of people, and recognizes the central importance of human relationships. Therefore, the communities support the organizations effort toward improving the welfare of abused and neglected children.

Neighbor to Family places abused and neglected children with their siblings in stable and safe foster homes. The support plays a significant role in ensuring that the children grow up to be self-reliant adults. The organization also supports the children by providing permanent placements that increase their chances for succeeding in life. The beneficiaries of the foster care programs have been able to lead successful lives. This implies that the program is effective in addressing social problems.
The fact that the organization’s approach to social problems has registered considerable success may be an impediment to listening to and learning from those whose opinions regarding social problems differ from mine. However, it is always important to consider opposing views as they can be used to improve current practices.
I plan to remain optimistic that social problems can be addressed, reduced, or eliminated by continuously seeking feedback from clients regarding when and where changes can be make to improve service delivery. Learning that more and more people get meaningful help reinforces the belief that social problems can actually be reduced or even eliminated.
