The essentials for nursing professionalism prepare a baccalaureate nurse to practice with patients. They are the curricular elements that offer the background for baccalaureate education of nurses. First, the nurses are provided with the “liberal education for baccalaureate generalist nursing practice” (“Essentials for Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice,” 2008). It purposely fosters across numerals fields of study, wide-range knowledge of science, society, and cultures (Association of American Colleges and Universities, 2007). They are also imposed with safety, quality improvement, and elementary organizational and systems leadership to ensure patient safety and quality care. There is also a scholarship to baccalaureate nursing graduates for evidence-based practice. They are offered skills and knowledge in information and patient care technology to provide quality care to patients in many healthcare settings. Besides, the baccalaureate graduate nurses get the healthcare policies, including regulatory and financial policies that shape responses to national, local, global, and organizational issues of social justice, affordability, access, and equity in healthcare. They are also equipped with interprofessional collaboration and communication to improve the results of patients' health (“Essentials for Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice,” 2008). They are also equipped with professional values and behaviors comprising the understanding of the legal, historical, and contemporary context of baccalaureate nursing practice.
During the BSN program, I met the essential IX by delivering evidence-based, patient-centered, compassionate care that represented the preferences of patients and their families. I provided proper patient teaching to foster the engagement of patients in their care. I communicated well with all healthcare team members, the patients, and their support networks. I also monitored the outcomes of the patients to assess the efficiency of psychobiological interventions. Additionally, I created a safe healthcare environment and evidence-based nursing care contributing to high quality and safety outcomes from environments.
