The goals of nursing remain clear in that nurses must be ready to meet different patients’ needs, function as leaders, and pursue stands, which are beneficial to patients as well as the capacity of health experts to offer safe and quality patient care. For one to qualify with a bachelor’s level nursing competency, many activities come into play. Nurses must acquire the right knowledge, skills, and attitudes to graduate successfully and become competent professionals. Therefore, this synthesis analyzes the pathway that I pursued in obtaining the nursing competencies listed in the syllabus during my practice as a nurse. 

The over five years of practicing nursing exposed me to the right environment where I gained the necessary skills and knowledge appropriate for any nursing practitioner. I learned firsthand how to interact with colleagues as well as respond to emergencies without panic. Experienced colleague nurses guided me on various matters of procedure such as injection and drug administration that I perfected over the years. The library was also another resource center that provided me with all the books and journals that I needed in building a broad knowledge base for the nursing degree I was pursuing.

Moreover, to gain more knowledge, I researched various topics in nursing such as the impact of The Affordable Care Act on local populations. The studies enabled me to generate more knowledge in multiple fields that came in handy while dispensing my nursing duties. Additionally, research accorded me an opportunity to interact with people on the ground and establish firsthand skills on how to deal with various conditions in the dispensation of my nursing duties. I learned the scientific processes of gathering information on prevalence, impact, and sustainability of various medical initiatives. 

Noteworthy, to gain skills necessary for the completion of my nursing degree, I enrolled for clinical practice at a local health care facility where I got the chance to interact with patients and professional nurses. The experience was great in the sense that the professional nurses offered me opportunities to put my nursing knowledge into practice and corrected me whenever necessary. Transferring the knowledge I had gained into practical use was at first challenging, but with time, I acquired confidence and carried out various tasks with ease. Interpretation of lab results, administering medication, and providing prescriptions became my daily routine, and the more I did that, the more I became confident and efficient. Generally, the clinical practice enabled me to perfect my practical medical skills, which stand essential in the successful completion of a nursing degree. 

Equally important to indicate is the fact that I sat for my continuous assessment tests as well as the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses before I started my practice in nursing. Indeed, the continuous assessments take a great deal of preparation and internalization of main concepts. I joined group discussions with fellow nursing students in which we helped each other in the interpretation of nursing concepts, which further enhanced my knowledge and skills in the field. Joint tasks that the tutors gave us helped me in developing positive attitudes towards nursing in general. My colleague nurses whom I have been with for the last five years also talked positively regarding nursing as a career and how they are helping humanity by way of alleviating pain and suffering, which has enabled me to develop a positive outlook towards nursing. It was then that I realized nursing was more than just offering medical help to patients but the desire to safeguard and save human life. 

The course has enabled me to achieve the outcome by exposing me to concepts and skills any nursing practitioner must have to function effectively. For instance, the clinical attachment course requirement exposed my practical skills in the field of nursing while the modules have enabled me to internalize fundamental nursing concepts such as Quality of Healthcare alongside Medicare and Medicaid. The knowledge I obtained from the modules enhanced my reserve of knowledge and skills in nursing. 

Importantly, the joint projects we did under module A Global Perspective and the Future represented my best learning experience in the entire course. While accomplishing the joint task, we got an opportunity to forecast what nursing will be like in the future in light of the technological advancements that the world is witnessing. As a group, we discussed the impact of globalization, especially on the training of nurses and the possibility of having a standard curriculum for all nursing students in the world. The push for universal healthcare provided a clear indicator of the likelihood of countries all over the world settling for a standard curriculum for nursing students. Overall, the assignment impressed me because it provided an opportunity for me to widen my scope of the nursing profession and even the possibility of working in a foreign country. 

In conclusion, completing a degree in nursing requires one to acquire the right skills, knowledge, and attitudes. The three factors enable one to become a competent practitioner and make it easy for an individual to develop in the career. Clinical practice allows one to transfer the knowledge obtained from reading books to practical use. One must spend sufficient time doing the clinical practice to get the real picture of what nursing entails. Theory alone cannot make one an efficient practitioner irrespective of how well one excels in the theoretical examinations. It is imperative to indicate that the over five years of experience I have had practicing nursing places me in a good position to pursue my online bachelor of science in nursing program.
