I would like to contribute on the aspect of barriers to criminal justice reform. On your point of society’s way of thinking being a prominent barrier to criminal justice reform, indeed I agree with every bit of it. The society has always affected how reformed offenders integrate with their communities. According to Davis, Bahr, & Ward (2013), a supportive system provides great motivation for individuals to desist from reoffending. For example, if people are offered support by their families and friends, as well as given employment opportunities, they will always find very little motivation to reoffend. However, the criminal justice reform process has always been entirely left to institutions. Although these institutions as well as the management may be convinced that the individuals have reformed, the society may still be suspicious. Individuals released from these correctional facilities may then be isolated and treated with contempt. Therefore, it is very important for the management of the justice reform system to realize that reformed offenders will always eventually be released to the society; it is important to have proper strategies in place that promote integration and support of the reformed individuals. I agree with the reasons you have provided concerning why school children may never report those planning to carry out attacks. Additionally, most schools do not provide a safe and secure environment for students to gain courage to report such incidents (Espelage & Hong, 2019). After all, the school management will not be around all the time to protect those who report, and still, the suspects can harass and even harm the victims after school. Briefly, there is always little motivation for students to report. While it may sound ethical and the right thing to do, at least according to the perspective of the school management, the consequences are always too great for the students to bear.
