With the technological development witnessed in recent years, data size has been growing significantly. Nearly everything we do in today's society requires some data recording. The computerization of today's activities has been the central factor in the management of big data. Bhadani and Jothimani (2016) define big data as the datasets whose size is significant to the extent that a database software tool cannot collect, store, or analyze. Based on past research, big data has both benefits and consequences. This paper will discuss the potential advantage and potential challenges of using big data as part of the clinical system. The paper will further give a strategy that can mitigate the challenges associated with big data.

Benefits of Big Data

Big data eliminates medication errors. When offering healthcare services to the patients, it is essential to ensure that the medication is accurate ( Wang et al., 2018). When the wrong medication is chosen, the patient can suffer severe consequences, including the patient's death. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the prescription is accurate to avoid such eventualities. Research shows that bid data is critical in analyzing patient records concerning prescribed medications, thus ensuring that errors are reduced or avoided at all costs.

Challenge of Big Data

Big data leads to difficulties in data capture, storage, and analysis. One of the main challenges of big data is capturing the data; most healthcare organizations have found it challenging to manage the vast data collected in line with patients' treatment ( Zhong et al., 2016). Organizations lack proper data governance practices to be able to manage big data. Practical data usage in health platforms requires data that is accurate, clean, and properly formatted. When the data is big, cleaning and storage become a problem, resulting in inaccurate and improperly formatted data. Inaccurate data can jeopardize healthcare service delivery.

Strategy to Mitigate Big Data Challenge

To overcome big data challenges, the healthcare professional should be trained and educated to handle big data in healthcare settings. With appropriate training, professionals can take big data with care, thus avoiding cases of inaccuracy and improper formatting of data.
