Despite the president being virtually the most powerful person in the US and the world in general, he does not have all the decision-making powers in their entirety. President Donald Trump is not new to controversy. Since he took office, his leadership has been defined by a series of decisions, statements, arguments, policies, and speeches that have left many Americans in awe. The sovereign power of president Trump is undeniably influential and quite authoritative. It is the highest leadership position in the US. However, the state of California has recently demonstrated the power and might that has been bestowed on the state leadership structures.

It is everyone’s knowledge that President Trump deems Climate Change as an illusion. However, with the continuing research activities and data being gathered by environmentalists, researchers, scientists, and meteorologists, climate change has been verified as an existent phenomenon. As a state, California has written and enacted its emission standards. There are emission thresholds that vehicles and industries should not exceed. Governor Jerry Brown of California has been an instrumental figure in pushing for action against climate change. Apart from hosting the environmental ministers of Mexico and Canada, he flew to China to partake in a global campaign against industrial emissions ( Davenport & Nagourney , 2017).

California’s stand on climate change is a classical revelation of how the different arms and structures of the government function. It shows that despite the president being the most powerful person, his or her powers have jurisdictional boundaries. Governor Jerry Brown seeming ‘defiance’ against Trump’s administration has been termed as a waged battle against Washington ( Wolff, 2018) . After President Trump took office, the Democratic legislative leader of California the former Attorney General (Eric H. Holder Jr.) represented the state in its legal battles with the Washington administration. From another dimension, this also demonstrates the democratic constructs that are definitive of the American Government – something which is admirable.
