The article, “Canopy Walkways for Conservation: A Tropical Biologist’s Panacea or Fuzzy Metrics to Justify Ecotourism” by Margaret Lowman focuses on the concept of conservation. Canopy research promotes forest conservation at three scales: through biological discoveries published with the existing scientific literature, by providing innovative sustainable economic opportunities for local stakeholders such as canopy walkways, and through educating a broader visitorship through ecotourism. The construction, economic analysis and evidence of conservation success of two canopy walkways are discussed . The first one is a canopy walkway constructed in 1993 along the Sucasari tributary of the Rio Napo downstream from Iquitos, Peru; and the second one is the first public canopy walkway built in Florida (USA) in 2000, the Myakka River Canopy Walkway. The author believed that canopy research offered the most suitable case study to examine the socioeconomic. The question raised in this case is whether the canopy access tool is effective concerning contributing positively towards the local economies and stimulates forest conservation. The author concludes that canopy research is vital since it can promote forest conservation.
I strongly agree with the authors’ argument that Canopy research promotes forest conservation. Based on the article, about half of the entire tropical forests in the recent years have been massively damaged , and the deforestation rates have continued to gather speed across the globe. Recently, societies and local members have focused on promoting various programs of walkway canopy which has increasingly enhanced education and create conservation awareness. There is the need for education that will improve people awareness about conversation through Canopy Walkway. Through Canopy walkways, people would be able to learn vital information related to natural resources and importance of conservation. Through Canopy Walk, individuals will be able to know that the ecosystem of the Tropical Rainforest is critical human survival. In addition to this, the people will learn that the ecosystems are largely determined by various internal and external elements hence the need to take every opportunity available to conserve the forest. Therefore, when the community becomes educated on conservation, the same will be spread to other people and the entire community would see reasons to invest into conservation improving forest.

However, the effectiveness of canopy walkway as a conservation strategy cannot be clearly understood in isolation. It is because there are ranges of factors that come together to achieve the aspect of conservation. There have been success stories on how canopy walkway contributed significantly to the ecotourism success but isolating the walkway from the rest of the core amenities such as infrastructure might not be easy. Therefore, this might mean that Canopy Walkway has been successful in conversation but with the contribution of other factors. Therefore, canopy walks away alone might not be sufficient for the conservation purposes. In conclusion, forest resources are critical for human survival, therefore; the increasing destruction has posed a greater challenge to the entire community necessitating the need for conservation. Despite the efforts that have been directed into the conservation of these systems no positive result has been attained. It might be important to advocate for the Canopy Walkway as one of the most efficient that would improve and converse the forest. This will create forest awareness among the population who will then invest in conservation.
