The position of my interest is the Medical Officer Administrator (MOA) position. I selected this particular position because MOAs have a central role in the healthcare system, and they can perform a wide range of administrative duties. They can also work in a wide range of facilities, including physicians’ offices, medical facilities, assisted care facilities, urgent care clinics, and hospitals. The primary role of MOAs involves ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the business. They usually work in ambulatory settings to manage daily operations, and their roles encompass direction, coordinating and supervising a variety of aspects concerning healthcare practice. My interest in this position is because it is dynamic, and hence an individual can oversee activities in a single department, or they can manage the entire business or a hospital.

There are several skills that an MOA should possess. The basic skills needed to manage a medical office successfully include excellent financial skills, an analytical mind, interpersonal skills, an organized mindset, leadership skills, technological know-how, and customer centricity. According to AHIMA (n.d.), these require skills include;

Taking part in clinical procedures and policies development and implementation.

Ensuring that procedures, regulatory standards, and policies are adhered to throughout the departments.

Assisting the management and clinical staff in decision-making.

Assisting in the review of employee performance.

To become a medical office administrator, one does not need to enroll for a specific degree. On the contrary, an individual receives specialized medical training on specific medical processes. Various community colleges and technical schools offer training programs for medical office administration, whereby a student can select to enroll either for a certificate, diploma or an associate degree program. The training program incorporates courses that focus on medical coding procedure, administrative methods, medical terms, computerized medical office procedures, anatomy, medical ethics, and medical office transcription. MOAs are also required to possess record keeping experience, and hence training incorporates bookkeeping software and covers records management. Other critical areas of training and experience include workplace relations and correspondence ("Medical Office Administrator: Job Description, Duties,

and Requirements," n.d.).

I plan to pursue this role in future because it is an exciting position that exposes one to different sophisticated roles. This is because I believe that I possess the skills that an MOA should possess. As mentioned earlier, the position also requires little formal education and the only requirement is postsecondary education. However, due to the competitive job market, I will consider completing a certificate or a degree in medical office administration.
