In history research, one of the major topics that I would focus on is that of World War II. This war is known to be the most widespread war in history. The battle was a global one, and it lasted for about six years that is from the year 1939 to 1945. This war is considered the greatest of all time due to it incurring almost 40 million to 50 million deaths. John and Thomas 2018 noted that “the principal belligerents were the Axis powers, Germany, Italy and Japan and the allies, France, Great Britain, the United States, and the Soviet Union 1 .”

In this research, there is a particular area of history that will provide the best methodology to conduct it. The area of political history will offer me with the method to research Second World War. This area of history is considered to be closely related to the area of political history. The military history mainly deals with the study of the causes of war, the tactics and strategies used in battle, and the organization of war machinery that is both the weapons and the soldiers. Therefore, the military area of history will provide the necessary methodology I need for the research.

“ History is a continuous process of interaction between the historian and his facts, and an unending dialogue between the present and the past 2 .” Carr believed that it is the historians that dictate the constitution of history. Also, Carr believes that, “History is both the inquiry conducted by the historian and the facts of the past into which he enquires 3 .” According to Richard Evans, history consists of contemporary documents that existed in the previous centuries. Furthermore, in his book, “In Defense of History,” Evans explains that sources are necessary for the definition and making of history. For one to identify historical facts and events, they have to inspect ancient contemporary documents. Thus this documents acts as history sources 4 . Therefore, through this explanation by Evans, we learn that the research in history one has to go through documents in the historical record.
