Nursing is a fast-paced profession with its dynamics and conventional practices changing continuously. One important nursing aspect mentioned in the post is technological advancements, which have seen nursing practice shift to a more digitalized profession. Telehealth, in particular, improves the dissemination of healthcare information through electronic media. This consequently improves nursing care outcomes. An article by Vrečar, Hristovski, & Peterlin (2016) describes telegenetics as a telehealth tool that is meant to ensure that individuals in remote areas access genetics care. Through the use of tools such as videoconferences, a genetically edited baby (CRISPR baby) can effectively consult clinicians, without having to travel for long distances. By enabling patients to access specialized care effectively, telehealth and telegenetics can sufficiently meet the population’s demand for genetic services. Such improvements in the provision of care will not only benefit the patient’ but will also transform the healthcare system to a more advanced system.

Response 2

Although molecular biologists outline the advantages of CRISPR/Cas9 as a process that involves simple construction, has high fidelity and can be produced at a low cost, it is without a doubt that there are numerous ethical and legal issues surrounding this technology. According to Rodriguez (2016), most of the issues associated with CRISPR/Cas9 are because it can be utilized for any given purpose. It can, however, be regulated, but researchers claim that the use of this system involved risks. As stated in the post, there are numerous ethical issues associated with the use of CRISPR/Cas9 system, some of which might be difficult to address, informed consent and autonomy are two important ethical issues of consideration in this case, and therefore before a patient and their family can agree to it they should be well informed of the associated risks. Human genome editing is an innovation of the 21 st century, and through the formulation of standards for utilization by reputable health organizations, the technology can significantly benefit humanity.
