Some of the challenges expected to emanate from the implementation of EHR in a health facility may be resistance from the staff, partial implementation of the EHR and the data immigration process.

Staff resistance in the implementation of the electronic health record is of key concern to the management. Change acceptance in the workplace is not easy and people will tarnish the importance of the technology because they are not ready for a change. In the process of Implementing the EHR resistance is expected from the clinical and support staff, board members and stakeholders. The data migration process is one of the reasons why EHR technology have been facing great resistance from the staff. The staff knows the tedious work that they will have to undertake while feeding the record in hard copy into the electronic record system. The high cost of implementation leads to partial implementation of the EHR affecting causing reduced productivity of the staff ( Heisey-Grove et al., 2014) . High costs that are related to implementing the EHR system make health facilities to partially implement the EHR system. Partial implementation means that the staff has to adapt to two systems of data keeping. The implementation of the EHR system means that it will take time before the staff gets used to the new process that causes slow productivity.

Lack of training for the staff is a key challenge for the implementation of the EHR ( Gabriel et al., 2014) . The time, efforts and resources need for training the staff in some cases are unaffordable. When such resources lack it means that the staff will not have the skills to operate the system.
