Change is inevitable in all endeavors of human beings. Thus, there are numerous theories developed to explore this phenomenon in our society. Examples of change theories are the social cognitive change theory and the Lewin three-step change theory. Although the two theories can be used to explain change, they have some differences.
Lewin's three-step change theory explains that behavior is a product of restraining and driving forces, both working in opposite directions. Motivating or driving forces are positive, and they entice individuals to move or act in the required direction ( White, 2019) . Then, the restraining force helps in undermining change in teams by pushing members to go in the opposite direction.

Then, the social cognitive theory insists on the need for attitudes, personality, and environment in the modification of individual behaviors. Individuals need to have self-efficacy and be self-motivated for behavior change to happen ( White, 2019) . Therefore, the social cognitive theory is morally founded based on the assumption that expected consequences can motivate specific behavior. That is the main difference between social cognitive theory and Lewin's three-step change theory since the latter is goal-oriented, balanced, and pragmatic ( White, 2019) . Additionally, Lewin's theory does not consider the attributes or personality of an individual; instead, it focuses on the external factors that lead to behavior change. Nonetheless, the two theories consider the role of external factors in influencing the change in individuals' behavior.
Amongst the two, Lewin's three-step change theory makes the most sense in implementing my EBP intervention. Markedly, this change theory is more pragmatic and rational because it considers the dynamic external factors evidenced in the nursing practice. Enhanced health outcomes are the driving factor in my project. It is brought about by a prewarming surgical plant, which helps reduce the hypothermia incidents. My mentor used the Lewin’s three-step theory which gave him positive results.
