Which social institutions do you think are most in need of change in the United States?
In the United States alone, there are various institutions in which change is required and therefore raising some concerns. One of the social institutions that have been found to demand change is the family. A family in the US was considered to be a family support system that mostly involved two individuals of the opposite sex who are married and therefore caring and providing for their biological children (Demo, 1992 p106). That was the initial meaning of a complete family but it is mostly not the case nowadays. The second social institution that requires a change is the education sector. Education is one of the social institutions that have been debated for the longest time possible where changes are been introduced from time to time.
Consider families, religious institutions, the education system, as well as local and national governments when selecting your institutions.

When one thinks of a family, there are so many structures that exist in various societies. One form of a family that is commonly known as the nuclear family which has now become less prevalence due to all the different changes that have been taking place all over the world today. The nuclear family can be said to have been discovered during the cold war in the year 1950, but that now has not been the trend any more (Demo, 1992 p110). On the other hand, education is another institution that serves as a basic need in the current American government. The constitution dictates that every child is entitled to good and accessible education that is equally available for them. This fact makes education a major concern not only in the United States but also in other parts of the world as well (Fullan, 2001).
Why do you think these institutions need reform and how would you work to change it?
The family requires change due to the introduction of various forms that have continued to emerge as time goes by. These major changes include one-parent households, cohabitation, same-sex families, as well as voluntary childless couples which are increasingly common. All these forms of families that have been newly introduced are the ones that are killing the true meaning of family and therefore I believe that it requires change (Demo, 1992 p113). One thing that can be done to improve this state is to psychologically address the people on the need of a family as well as the benefits that come along when one is in a nuclear family.
On the other hand, the education sector requires reform in the sense that most of the schools have been found to concentrate more on academics and tend to forget on rules. This means that most of the well-performing schools only focus on academics while the average ones tend to focus on the rules. This means that the high performing ones only prepare students for graduation and the other one which is the average focuses on both, therefore, preparing the child for their lives after high school (Fullan, 2001). This is the reason as to why the education sector has been a major concern since all the schools should only focus on both of the aspects as they prepare the children for their afterlives as well as their graduation.
