Child safety is an aspect of utmost significance for every child in the schooling system. Not only while in school but also anytime the child is away from home for school. School buses have saved a considerable transport cost for commuting children to and fro home and school. The main concern in this paper is the safety of the child in while on the bus. In most cases, buses transporting children tend to break the law for overloading, considering the physical space occupied by children from home or to school. Most school buses have no safety belts for children. This has been a risk to the safety of the children considering that the bus is operating on roads with high traffic and it’s prone to different traffic issues. This has been a concern that needs to be addressed to ensure that school buses are fitted with safety belts to improve the safety of children on the roads.

A recent case involving a school bus and a car has troubled the safety of children where children sitting on the front seats of the bus developed some injuries when a car tried to overtake the bus on a certain roundabout. A similar case had happened earlier and a bill to put seat belts on every seat on the school bus failed. However, the recent case indicates that children sitting on the front seat are at a higher risk obtained from the fact that the two children developing some injuries were sitting in the front seat. Cases similar to the recent case may require the driver to apply emergency brakes which jerk the children forward. Consequently, fitting the front sits with safety belts would improve the safety of children in front seats since they will remain intact in case of such jerking.

Furthermore, in order to make this idea into a bill that would become a law, there must be the support of the members of the community. As presented in, “How a bill becomes a law” this idea will be presented to the members of the community including parents who have their children being commuted by school buses. The advantage at hand is the fact that one of the parents in the community is a legislative officer who might help in forwarding the bill for a hearing. A similar bill had been suggested that required fitting all the school bus seats with safety belts. However, it failed since it could not be supported by a significant number. This idea is being supported by a considerable number that meets the legislative number of 1500 signatures from other supporters of the idea. The neighbors are supportive since they are aware of the risk involving children relating to the previous case.

The bill will require approval through the legislative process including the support of the bill by more representatives. This will be followed by the voting practice from the members of the house that will determine the progress of the bill after discussing the merits of the bill. After the approval, the bill pertaining to the safety of children in the bus will proceed to the full house to have its merits debated. The approval of the bill will proceed it to the senate who will debate on it. From this stage, the bill will proceed to the government who will pass it into law. The bill on fitting safety belts on bus front seats will be crucial towards the safety of the children avoiding cases resulting in accident cases in the future. Consequently, this bill through the legislative representative has great significance on children safety in the daily transport to school and fro hence need to be approved into law.
