The article talks about different circumstances that make children under the age of eighteen to take up responsibilities that an average kid their age wouldn't. These conditions vary according to various reasons such as the absence of both parents, financial constraints and even something as simple as taking up a talent, which ends up to be time-consuming. The article centers around three particular individuals Anh Tuan, Willy Ross and Josh. They come from different parts of the world and are of different descent but what they have in common is the fact that had to become adults before it was necessarily time. The article elaborates each of their stories bringing to light their different circumstances, the choices they made and how they learned to deal the bitter cards that life dealt them.

Anh Tuan was from Vietnam, he chose to leave his home country for Hong Kong at the age of twelve with his older brother, and his mother could not convince him to do otherwise. He left Vietnam in search of excitement and adventure, but this is not what he found when he arrived in Hong Kong. They were forced to live in refugee camps, and his older brother had to work to provide for their basic needs. Anh Tuan is therefore forced to become a househusband at the age of twelve, instead of going to school, he had to learn how to cook and take care of the little belongings that they owned.

Willy Ross's situation was different from Anh Tuan's; he had to learn how to fend for himself after he became an orphan. He survived through the help of the church, well-wishers and a monthly allowance of twenty-four dollars from one of his sisters, but on the other that he had to teach himself how to become a responsible member of the society. He had to grow up without the love of a mother and father; the world taught him about life. Unlike the other two gentlemen, Josh's circumstance was by choice; he loved playing the trumpet and could spend multiple hours per day practicing his craft. He was not able to participate in everyday high school activities or spend quality time with his friends. In this way, he missed out on being a kid and was not able to form long-lasting relationships with his peers.

In conclusion, the article successfully brings to light the circumstances that turn kids into adults which are either by choice or forced circumstances. Every listener will be drawn into each of their individual stories as they are compelling and full of emotions.
