Physical Security

Physical security comprises features that protect the staff, systems, assets and equipment from theft, manipulation, and vandalism. Some of the company’s' approaches include intrusion detection, emergency response readiness, and access control (Hutter, 2016). In my current work setting, the manager hires security personnel who have specialized in closed-circuit television (CCTV) installation and implementation, risk assessment and analysis, and facility construction to enhance the physical security components.

Building Security

Building security is a vital feature since it protects the company’s assets and staff. One of the building security’s components is the security officers who can provide knowledge about suspicious people or activities within an office. A security team provides dynamic responses to events that may result in office vandalism or threaten employees' lives. Building security also ensures that only specific people have access to given offices. This strategy reduces the possibility of theft or interruption of office operations. Photo identification and key cards are the most commonly used approached to ensure only authorized personnel have access to specific offices or departments. Another feature of building security is video surveillance (Dieti, 2019). Laser sensors and thermal imaging cameras can protect a company from theft and vandalism. They can identify suspicious individuals and alert the security officials in a building. Security lights are also part of building security. They guide the staff around the offices during the day and night and enable security to identify potential thieves around the building.

Grounds Security

Grounds security comprise the security officers who protect an organization from unlawful entry, sabotage, unsafe working conditions, and theft. Well-trained dogs accompany security officers for additional security; they carry weapons such as firearms, pepper spray, and batons. Grounds security prevents the occurrence of illegal and inappropriate activities. For instance, security guards to monitor the alarm systems and video surveillance cameras, conduct patrols, take action to mitigate risks and report the incidents to emergency services such as the law enforcement agents and paramedics. Besides, grounds security ensures that every staff member adheres to the security protocols. It protects a company from potential liability insurance claims.

Access Control Systems

Access control systems are vital since they determine the employees who have access to a given resource. I worked for a company that had a well-developed information and technology department. The security team initiated measures that allowed only specific employees to edit particular files. Access control systems are instrumental in minimizing risk to a business by keeping the staff, data, and the building secure (Dieti, 2019). One of the benefits of access control systems is that it allows supervisors and managers to note how individuals access the company’s data. Another advantage is the ability to vary security permissions. When employees leave a company, access control systems ensure that they have no access to the company’s data. This strategy prevents third-parties’ access to a firm’s vital resources and information. Also, access control systems protect a company from breach of privacy and data protection lawsuits.

Perimeter Security

Perimeter security prevents unwanted parties from entering a business’s premise. There was live electric fencing, perimeter patrol system, number plate recognition system, and high resolution CCTV cameras in the organization that I worked. These features ensured that only authorized personnel had access to the company’s premise. In such a working environment, employees feel safe and focus on their work.

Information Systems and Technology Security

Information systems and technology security enhance an organization’s effectiveness. For example, having a secured cloud features protects data loss in case of vandalism and theft. Information systems and technology security ensure that third-party companies have no access to sensitive information such as employees’ social security numbers, payrolls, and addresses (Ubilla, 2016). It also safeguards the technology that a company uses.
