Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) have evolved to become common healthcare practices. These guidelines are identified as instructions from evidence-based studies that encompass the best clinical practices. They also incorporate patients' beliefs and values on the care provided to inform the care providers on the best approach to use when caring for patients. Clinical practice guidelines are evidence-based statements informing patients and healthcare practitioners on the best clinical practice for specific clinical problems, thus contributing to better patient outcomes.

Clinical practice guidelines are identified as instructions that guide healthcare practitioners on how to provide care for their patients. The Institute of Medicine defines the CPGs as systematically developed statements that offer patients and practitioners information on the appropriate healthcare practices for different clinical circumstances (Kredo et al., 2016). The guidelines are meticulously developed founded on systematic reviews of available evidence and the merits and demerits. These guidelines also offer concise instructions on the specific tests to be taken and the period that the patient should stay in the hospital, among other particulars of clinical practice (Baldassari, 2017). The guidelines offer information on various details of clinical practice to ensure the practitioners are well informed when caring for the patients.

CPGs are capable of improving patient outcomes in healthcare settings. The guidelines help improve the effectiveness and quality of care by preventing mistakes and adverse events (Kredo et al., 2016). They offer evidence-based statements of expected practice that inform healthcare practitioners. The guidelines also help integrate the best evidence from studies to ensure the clinical decisions made are best practices that also encompass patient's values and preferences (Melnyk, 2015). These practice guidelines reduce the issue of healthcare variation that exists in the healthcare system by ensuring a standardized system of care is developed for all patients. CPGs improve patient outcomes by also creating performance measures that must be adhered to in the healthcare setting (Melynk, 2015). These ensure that patient outcomes are improved in the healthcare facilities.

CPGs are statements informing patients and healthcare practitioners on the best evidence-based clinical practice for specific clinical problems, thus contributing to better patient outcomes. CPGs offer concise instructions on the specific details of clinical practice to ensure the practitioners are well informed when caring for the patients. This helps reduce adverse events, preventable mistakes, and existing variations in clinical practice. CPGs should be adapted in all healthcare facilities to increase patient outcomes and better the type of healthcare practices offered to patients.
