Cohabitation is the agreement between two individuals who decide to live together yet they are not married. I think cohabitation as an option is rampant in our modern society which has been influenced by transforming social views of religion and marriage. On the other hand, my opinion for cohabitation is that it is a significant step to take before making a relationship official which gets the involved partners to know each other's strengths and weaknesses and increase their levels of understanding towards each other. As such, it is appropriate for couples to live together before marriage. Cohabitation is like a form of ‘test drive' whereby it determines how the future marriage of the involved individuals might end up while establishing trust and understanding. In most cases, cohabitation leads to a stronger and happier marriage. This is because the cohabitants have already understood one another and they have embraced each other's strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, the partners may have already identified each other's potential which means that after they marry, they will have known how to support one another to reach their destinies.

Nonetheless, various studies have concluded that cohabitants expose their future marriage life to significant risks. Additionally, it has been determined that cohabitation is replacing marriage in our current society. Such conclusions have been reached while putting aside the aspects of religion and morality. The element of cohabitation as a lifestyle is on the rise as data shows that almost five million people lived as cohabitants as of the year 2000. Besides, 60% of the Americans believe that cohabitation is essential before marriage and that it should be embraced (Kieman, 2014). Such findings are not surprising since cohabitation is associated with the changing social views. Relatively, the research about cohabitation conforms to my desire to cohabit in future before marriage. On this note, before getting married, I would have had enough time to know my partner and understand the person who can be effectively achieved through cohabitation.
