Healthcare environments require the collaboration of various departments to ensure the successful service delivery. Varies authors have written tons of topics emphasizing the importance of this concept as will be shown in this analysis. Whilst providing a summary of the article in addressing the importance of collaboration within the healthcare team, I will show how the concept has helped me grow as a nurse professional within a multidisciplinary.

For this paper, I selected an article titled “ Interprofessional Collaboration to Improve Professional Practice and Healthcare Outcomes ” by Scott Reeves et al. This article can be found at http://cochranelibrary-wiley.com/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD000072.pub3/full . This article shows how the current healthcare system is operating in a culture defined by silos. According to this culture, the most capable and smartest doctors are authorized to give specialty care. However, though specialists can demonstrate their expertise and skills in delivering the best care for specific conditions, they seem to be operating in isolation (Reeves et al.). Such separation from other healthcare professionals is causing unpredictable results because the patient’s comprehensive needs are going unmet.

The article gives various examples of how healthcare facilities are causing deaths because of issues such as prescription overdoses, which tend to be exaggerated by the failure to engage clinical professionals in pain management. This article argues that the solution is simple; coordinate care among all healthcare professionals. This collaboration enables sharing of knowledge, which in turn promotes positive treatment outcomes, especially when dealing with complicated medical issues that require competent illness management (Reeves et al.). Such cases demonstrate that coordinating care among the various healthcare professionals must be a top priority.

In my experience, this multidisciplinary collaboration has not only helped me grow professionally but also improved in terms of patient care. These teams are effective ways for me as a nurse to come together with other professionals to discuss and solve complex medical issues in hopes of achieving high-quality outcomes for patients (Reeves et al.). In addition, these multidisciplinary teams have given me an opportunity to advocate for my clients, serve as an interdisciplinary team leader, and employ my group skills like conflict resolution, compromise, and negotiation to realize desired patient outcomes.
