The issue of color and the discrimination that comes with it has been a debatable issue in the United States (US) society. A contingent of the population asserts that racism does exist, and it is prevalent in society while the other group, including the government, says that America is a color-blind nation that does not do anything based on color. Therefore, racism is a non-issue that is existent in American society. The systems aver that they have done everything legal to alleviate conditions that propagate racism based on color and origins of coming to the US for better opportunities. However, this is not the same opinion or what is happening on the ground. Formulating laws against racism is not the answer against the vice and also not the only remedy through which color discrimination can be solved. There are different ways through which issues of color can be alleviated and probably devised simultaneously. However, before the processes take effect, people have to acknowledge whether racism exists or not. Whether American society is color-blind or not. Focusing on recent events, which have occurred during the coronavirus pandemic, for instance, the recent black lives matter and thinking that society is color-blind is out of pure prejudice. This is because black, white and yellow is entrenched in society and continues to grow especially on the fact of denial by the administration and groups that do not want to engage in the matter. Black, white and yellow do exist and acknowledging otherwise is a prejudice of the fact and to realize the existence calls for the American society to look around them and notice what is going on.
Color-blind is a scenario where skin color does not affect the opportunities that are accorded to people while in their search for better lives (Jonsson, 2016). Color-blind means that a job is given to you or not based on the color of your skin. For instance, for an organization that is hiring, would pick a white candidate over black and yellow to avoid the kind of friction that it may have with its employees dealing with a different race coworker. It may not be categorized as racism but is surely an issue of color or not being color-blind. Racism, especially for African Americans, is a problem that they have grappled with since history happened. It culminated with the propagation of the slave trade in the US, and blacks were perceived as lesser human beings when compared to whites. Ever since the abolishment of the slave trade, African Americans have had to fight for their civil rights and equality in society. Through activism, the community has achieved a lot and lost a lot through the assassinations of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. However, concerned parties can disagree that racism and color blind are two separate aspects of discrimination. Construing that color discrimination is because of racism is an ideology in vain. Yes, racism is one of the reasons, but to discuss color purely based on the notion of racism is a misleading approach

Color-blind is a prejudiced notion, which in itself, is a problem that different races face in American society. It is a choice of ignoring what is going on around them and assume that all is well. However, focusing on recent events in the US, one could easily see that black lives do not matter, and the position that a majority of people have decided to take in believing that the nation is a color-blind country is exacerbating the phenomenon. In as much as racism is partly to blame, the society has to acknowledge that a greater evil is present in the subconscious existence of divisible beliefs in the line of race among the majority of members in society. A subconscious existence that has fomented a problem called intersectionality in society (Windsor, 2017). For instance, government administrations have made it believable in society that the majority of the people incarcerated in American prisons are African Americans. With such a belief being embedded in society, it is easy for law enforcement to approach a black first-time offender with such a severity while a white offender of the same caliber being let go on a misdemeanor warning. It is not as much the effects of slavery but the intersectionality that has been cultivated in peoples minds as well as being told that America is a color-blind society. If society is made to believe that the Hispanic community is quite aggressive, more prone to crime and the reason why labor is cheap in different communities, then such notions are likely to create enmity against the Hispanic race. The existence of white supremacy in the situation makes the phenomenon even worse because of the belief that the white race is superior to any other race in America. It cultivates the aspect of entitlement in society, and the notion of their lives matter more than any other race. Therefore, the issue of color-blind being prejudiced, racism, the existence of white supremacism and the evolution of intersectionality are among the determinants of racial discrimination in American society.
Black, white and yellow exists in the society, and unless the issue becomes a national discussion and a better resolve established, the problem is going to be cycled in different generations to come impeding cohesiveness and probably greatly affecting national security soon. America should commence the discussion based on color, racism, intersectionality and white supremacy as it is a better approach to solving the problem once and for all.
