Interprofessional collaboration requires that professionals in the healthcare setting from distinct professional and educational backgrounds communicate in an effective manner to ensure they offer quality care to communities, patients, as well as families. Supporting diversity in various levels and communicating in a genuine manner serves as an effective approach for enhancing interdisciplinary communication. Learning and using effective skills of communication plays a critical role in terms of promoting harmony while at the same time boosting the roles that nurse practitioners undertake. Thus, the paper discusses the vital role that communication and collaboration play in the healthcare setting

Components Necessary for Interpersonal Communication 

Exercising interpersonal communication revolves around several key components. Firstly, precise communication serves as a vital skill that nurses should embark on. They should ensure to listen actively. This is especially vital since a large number of patients lack training in diagnosing symptoms and medical terminologies As such, nurses should make sure to listen carefully to allow them offer clues that patients would be able to understand precisely. Secondly, exercising patience is essential for interpersonal communication. Patience is essential in diverse nursing work aspects. Effective caregivers are able to offer information that calms family members who seem upset. In exercising patience, nurses are able to reassure impatient, upset, and demanding patients that they will receive effective care, particularly when on matters related to undesired outcomes. Thirdly, team spirit is vital because it boosts organizational performance and satisfaction on the job. Various forces usually merge to share the outlook of the nursing profession, including experiences, perceptions, and emotions. Whereas nurses do not have the ability of controlling a large number of these forces, they can establish a team setting that offers support for coping with diverse circumstances in life, hence making sure that interpersonal communication emerges effective. Lastly, the capacity to address conflicts is vital. Nurses may utilize conflicts as an opportunity for positive learning. Conflicts emerge because of the prevalence of opposing variables, such as beliefs, opinions, outlooks, and emotional states. Interpersonal conflicts emerge when several individuals are in a disagreement. Nurses should be able to see situations from distinct perspectives to allow tem listen from distinct perspectives in an effective manner (ADU Online, 2017) .

Importance of Interprofessional Collaboration 

Interprofessional collaboration is vital in the healthcare setting. For instance, with the increasing evolution of the healthcare environment, professionals, such as pharmacists, nurses, social workers, physicians, and experts from other disciplines are becoming more interconnected. In simple terms, interprofessional collaboration makes it possible to approach patient care from the perspective of a team effort. In this vein, it facilitates in improving patient outcomes, facilitate in improved care quality, and reduce the costs of delivering care. Overall, when the distinct teams collaborate, they are able to realize the mutual goal that emphasizes on the patient (Busari, Moll, & Duits, 2017) .

Applying Interpersonal Communication Components to Interprofessional Collaboration 

Interpersonal communication facilitates in realizing effective interprofessional collaboration. Absence of communication results to medical errors. The errors might result to intense injuries or unanticipated death of the patient. With effective communication among healthcare teams from distinct disciplines, it becomes possible to eradicate failures in delivering care to patients. Interpersonal communication makes it possible for healthcare members to improve patient care because they are able to share unique perspectives relating to patient care. Every profession approaches care of patients differently while deploying distinct knowledge, skills, and professional identities to boost the care delivered to patients. With interpersonal communication, it becomes possible to eradicate the diverse barriers that prevail between various disciplines, hence improving the team spirit. Interpersonal communication also assures improved care and sustains it (ADU Online, 2017) .

Promoting Interprofessional Collaboration 

Because of the vital role that interprofessional collaboration plays in healthcare settings, several approaches are deployed to address the promoting it. The major approach is to ensure that team members are able to introduce themselves to a group to ensure that the team members have a sufficient understanding of each other. The team members should ensure that they lay emphasis on the roles they play based on the manner in which it relates to care of patients. In addition, the team members should ensure that they share with the group members the approaches of incorporating the healthcare needs of the patients to allow them address any problems that might arise together. Moreover, it is vital for the team members to make sure that they attain feedback from other members to ensure that they communicate and collaborate effectively when offering care to patients (Busari, Moll, & Duits, 2017) .

Building Interprofessional Teams 

Establishing interprofessional teams is vital is vital in terms of ensuring that patients receive quality care. To build interprofessional teams, therefore, the major area to focus on is to focus on addressing any conflicts that arise in the communication process among teams from different disciplines. Managing conflicts in an effective manner creates an avenue where the team members can grow. Since this does not always occur, it is vital to eradicate obstacles that hinder effective teamwork, such as turf protection, blaming others, and inability to deal with issues in a direct manner. In addition, it is vital to focus on establishing trust to ensure that the team members show willingness is sharing their observations and ideas while at the same time emphasizing on addressing any prevailing questions effectively (ADU Online, 2017) .

Interpersonal communication plays a critical role in terms of ensuring that ensuring that team members are able to understand each other in the healthcare environment. In this perspective, therefore, promoting interpersonal communication and interprofessional collaboration facilitates in ensuring that healthcare professionals address the healthcare needs of the clients effectively and efficiently.
