Primary care plays a significant role in improving healthcare in several populations. Consequently, there has been a need for developing programs that are aimed at providing the best primary care. However, countries like the United States have costly and unevenly distributed care programs. This has prompted the development of community-based programs that encourage corporation among healthcare professionals and the residents of the community. However, the implementation of these programs are hindered by factors such as division in communities, cultural barriers, financial constraints, and the general lack of resources that encourage innovation. Therefore, members of the community have productive ideas but find it challenging to implement them.

Barriers to Innovation

Innovation is an aspect of the current society that determines how the future will be. Nonetheless, there are physical and mental barriers that limit how individuals put their ideas into practice. For starters, one of the barriers that affect almost all innovations is limited knowledge. Most communities, mainly rural or marginalized ones, are affected by these aspects. This is because most of their minds think the same. On the other hand, there is a regulatory barrier. This is when the laws of the land limit the actions of an individual. Lastly, as long as the idea is logical, there is always the contradiction barrier. However, developing the right measures to counter these barriers goes a long way in guaranteeing the implementation of the innovation.

Challenges

Implementing programs into communities can be quite challenging. This is because communities are made of different people with contradicting opinions. Lack of resources is the primary challenge in this field. Whether it is finance or human resources, teams have to work with what they have which can be limiting. Secondly, cultural barriers determine the success or failure of such projects. Consequently, the planners must study and understand the culture before coming up with the innovations. Finally, the safety of healthcare professionals or their equipment is never guaranteed. However, despite the challenges, community-based programs go a long way in solving the basic healthcare need, especially in marginalized populations.
