Healthy people, 2020 program was formed in 2010 by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) to help promote healthier living and disease-free nation ( Gonzales & Henning-Smith, 2015). The program aims at supporting behavioral and lifestyle changes in people living with health disparities so that they can be healthy and have higher life expectancies. Historically, individuals with health disparities have had shorter life spans and health complications that arise from their way of life.
The term health disparity, as described by healthy people 2020, illustrates a difference in the health status of individuals caused by socioeconomic and environmental variations ( Gonzales & Henning-Smith, 2015). The most common health disparity arises from the existence of minorities in a population. For instance, disabled people are a minority and face challenges in accessing healthcare services. Similarly, people with atypical sexual orientation fall for the health disparities exceptionally prompt access to health services. The gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people are a sexual minority that has lacked proper medical attention like the sexually upright population.

At the national level, the disabled are cared for under universal design. There are now specifications from the national authorities that medical facilities be accessible to all people. The facilities are equipped with ramps and lifts to facilitate easy access to ward rooms and treatment centers for the disabled. Telemedicine is used to enhance faster access to the disabled from their local medical stations ( Gonzales, & Henning-Smith, 2015). As of late 2017, for instance, California granted a federal sum of $2 to support telemedicine. The sexual minorities now have their own space at the sanitary rooms of most public amenities. Recently, there are civil rights passed to the sexual minorities that help reduce their levels of stigma and facilitate access to health and health insurance. According to ( Gonzales, & Henning-Smith, 2015), same-sex marriage was recognized in 2015, nationally except for a few places like American Samoa.
